Port Guide
Chittagong (Chattogram) Port handles virtually all of Bangladesh's vehicle imports and is the primary and busiest port. Customs clearance at Chittagong Customs House via ASYCUDA system. Average clearance: 14–30 working days (often longer due to bureaucracy and port congestion). Pre-arrival customs entry recommended. Established clearing agent in Chittagong is essential. Dhaka ICD handles inland clearance for capital-bound cargo. Port congestion is common — factor in delays when planning shipment timelines.
Local Market Advice
Bangladesh has punitive supplementary duties on large-engine vehicles that make 3000cc+ cars financially prohibitive for all but the wealthiest buyers. Sub-2000cc vehicles at 45% SD are more viable. The ready-made garment industry has created a class of wealthy entrepreneurs in Dhaka and Chittagong who seek prestige vehicles. Toyota Prado and Land Cruiser 200 are the most desired prestige imports. The diplomatic and NGO community creates demand for 4WDs. Road conditions outside Dhaka require 4WD. UK vehicles must be under 5 years old. Service history essential.
