Port Guide
Colombo Port (Sri Lanka Ports Authority) is the main vehicle import terminal. Colombo is one of Asia's busiest transhipment hubs — efficient and well-connected. Jaya Container Terminal (JCT) and South Asia Gateway Terminals (SAGT) handle most containers. Clearance 7–14 working days. Sri Lanka Customs processes via ASYCUDA++ system. Pre-arrival documentation can be submitted. Galle Port is secondary. UK to Colombo sea transit: 20–28 days.
Local Market Advice
Sri Lanka drives on the left — RHD from UK is ideal. The 5-year age limit is strictly enforced. The economic crisis of 2022 led to temporary import bans which have since eased. The duty structure heavily favours hybrid and electric vehicles — Toyota Aqua, Nissan Leaf, and Honda Fit Hybrid are the most imported categories. For prestige: BMW 3 Series, Range Rover Evoque, and Mercedes C-Class are popular with Colombo's professional class. Colombo is the primary market. UK vehicles need to be recent and in excellent condition. Service history from UK dealers adds value.
