Port Guide

Basseterre Harbour (Port Zante) is the main port. The container terminal handles vehicle imports but facilities are very limited for a small island port. Transit is typically via Barbados or Trinidad. Clearance takes 7–14 working days.

Volume is very low — confirm schedules and procedures well in advance with the port authority. Work with an agent experienced in Eastern Caribbean shipping who knows the St. Kitts process to avoid delays.

Local Market Advice

St. Kitts and Nevis has a combined population of approximately 55,000 but its economy is significantly boosted by the Citizenship by Investment (CBI) programme — which attracts wealthy international residents. This creates genuine demand for prestige vehicles well above what the population size alone would suggest.

Range Rover, BMW and Mercedes are popular with CBI residents and local professionals. The 5-year rule means recent models only. RHD (drives on the left). Condition is paramount — buyers in a small island community quickly form opinions that spread by word of mouth.

Most Popular Vehicles

St Kitts & Nevis has an unusually affluent buyer profile for an island of 55,000 people, largely because of its Citizenship by Investment (CBI) programme, which has brought high-net-worth residents from across the world. These CBI citizens tend to buy at the very top of the market. Range Rover Autobiography Long Wheelbase models are among the most sought-after, with landed values reaching XCD$350,000 or more. Buyers in this segment want the latest specifications and will reject anything with cosmetic imperfections.

BMW X5 M Competition and Mercedes-Benz GLE 53 AMG are strong choices for buyers who want a sportier edge. The Porsche Cayenne Turbo has also found buyers among the island's new wealthy residents. Toyota Land Cruiser GX in the 300 Series is popular for its reputation among buyers who prioritise long-term reliability in a tropical climate. For buyers at the upper-middle level, the Range Rover Evoque and BMW X3 M Sport offer a more accessible entry into prestige motoring on the island.

Common Questions

Can CBI residents of St Kitts import a vehicle from the UK?

Yes — CBI citizens of St Kitts & Nevis have the same import rights as Kittitian nationals. There is no restriction on importing a vehicle as a CBI passport holder. The vehicle must comply with the standard 5-year age limit and meet all Customs & Excise requirements at Port Zante, Basseterre. Many CBI clients use us to source and ship prestige vehicles as part of establishing their island residence. We handle all export documentation from the UK side and can liaise with local customs agents in Basseterre.

What vehicles qualify under the 5-year age limit in 2025 and 2026?

In 2025, vehicles manufactured from 2020 onwards are eligible. In 2026, 2021 onwards. This means a 2022 Range Rover Autobiography is fully compliant for import right now and through 2027. We always confirm the exact manufacture date from the V5C before sourcing — some 2020-plate vehicles were actually manufactured in late 2019, which would disqualify them. This is a detail that matters and one we check on every order.

How does shipping to St Kitts work — does it go via Barbados or Trinidad?

Most container services from the UK to the Eastern Caribbean tranship at either Barbados (Bridgetown) or Trinidad (Port of Spain). From those hub ports, a feeder vessel carries the container to Port Zante in Basseterre. The full UK-to-St Kitts transit is typically 21–28 days including feeder connection. We work with carriers who have reliable feeder schedules to minimise waiting time at the hub port. All our containers are sealed and tracked throughout the journey.
